During its Unpacked presentation, Samsung officially announced its new Galaxy Z Fold2 foldable smartphone. This model is the successor to last year’s Galaxy Fold device. The novelty has a larger external display, an improved main camera module and some other aspects.
Instead of a small external display, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 uses a full-size 6.2-inch screen that occupies almost the entire surface of the bezel. Thus, this screen can be used for full-fledged work, opening the device less often. The display is based on a Super AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2260×816 pixels (aspect ratio 25: 9). The screen supports HDR10 + and 60Hz refresh rate.
The internal display has also increased in size. Now its diagonal is 7.6 inches (versus 7.3 inches from its predecessor). In this case, a Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel is used with an adaptive frequency of up to 120 Hz and support for HDR10 +. The image resolution of the internal display is 2208×1768 (aspect ratio 5: 4). To protect the display from negative external influences, UTG (Ultra Thing Glass) material is used. Despite previous rumors, support for the S Pen has not been implemented. Cameras in both displays are located in through-holes, rather than cutouts, as was the case before. This allowed for thinner bezels around the display. Both cameras include 10 megapixel sensors and f / 2.2 aperture lenses.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 foldable smartphone is powered by a Snapdragon 865+ processor, 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of on-board storage. Support for 5G communication in the bands up to 6 GHz and mmWave is declared. The fingerprint scanner is located on the side of the case, so it can be used both in the open and in the closed state of the smartphone. The battery capacity is 4500 mAh. It claims support for 25W fast wired charging, 11W wireless charging and reversible wireless charging.
The rear panel houses a triple camera based on 12-megapixel sensors that differ in lenses. Standard wide-angle, ultra-wide-angle and telephoto lenses are available to users. An optical image stabilization system and a sensor with large pixels of 1.8 μm are available in the main module.
The new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2 smartphone will be available for pre-order from September 1st. Its price has not yet been announced. She and the missing specifications will be discussed at a side event on September 1. The smartphone will be available in Mystic Black, Mystic Bronze colors. Also on the market will be a limited edition in Thom Browne.
