Some users have started to complain that the new Microsoft Edge browser has started to crash randomly when the user types in the address bar. Apparently, the problem only affects those users who have Google set as their default search engine.
The problem began to manifest itself at about 2 am on July 31st (Kiev time). It affected users working on computers running macOS and Windows. Microsoft has started investigating these failures. As a temporary solution, it was recommended to disable the Search Suggestions function in the settings via edge: // settings / search. It really helped.
Are you seeing Edge crash when trying to type into the address bar? The team is looking into it! In the meantime, as a workaround, please turn off Search Suggestions here: edge: // settings / search. We’ll follow up once we have more!

Later, the company completely fixed the problem, this happened about 4 hours after the first messages about the browser crash appeared. It has not yet been clarified why the crash only appeared if Edge was set to Google search by default. If users switched to Bing, the crashes were no longer observed.
