Huawei smartphones run on different processors, but this does not mean that it cannot be associated with any one. As a rule, for the budget line of other smartphones, this is Mediatek, and for flagships, one of the Snapdragon models. In the case of Huawei, most often these are Kirin chips created by one of its companies – HiSilicon. This year, despite the bans, we will see the emergence of a new processor, which will become something more than just a new chip. He can break records and enter his name into the virtual hall of fame. Will the company succeed?
When will Huawei Mate 40 be released
Now inside the laboratories and the Huawei office building, the finalization of the model is in full swing, which should see the light in September this year. Of course, I’m talking about the Huawei Mate 40 series. One of the features of these smartphones will be that they will receive a new chipset, which will be based on a 5-nm process technology. If everything goes according to plan within the company, you can be sure that everything will turn out that way.
Like true Chinese: Huawei patented “Galaxy Z Flip”
The new Huawei Mate 40 will be the first smartphone to receive this chipset. Some rumors say that it will be called the Kirin 1000. Although, most of the rumors claim that despite the release of the Kirin 990 last year, this year the “piece of hardware” will be called the Kirin 1020. But something else is interesting about it. It is he who can make the company a real pioneer in the production of such chips. Perhaps that is why the name was taken, as it were, after several steps, to show that this is really a revolution.
Since according to recent reports, Apple is not so smooth with the production of the new generation of iPhone and there is a possibility that the iPhone 12 or iPhone 5G – whatever you call it – will be released later than expected. This means that the Apple A14 processor will be released later. If this happens, then it will be the Huawei Mate 40 that will be the first smartphone to feature a chip with a 5nm process technology. This is a success!
There is no need to talk about a 5nm processor from Qualcomm yet. It will be released at the end of the year
Will Huawei have time to release the Mate 40
You will say that Huawei may be late too, and you will be right. Moreover, some analysts talked about it, “waving” the alleged leaks. True, this was later refuted, so the company, most likely, everything is going according to plan and the presentation of smartphones will take place in mid-September. Around this time, the company will have already supplied chips on another process technology: 7 nm, 16 nm, 28 nm, and even Bluetooth chips for the TWS headset. The company needs to bypass the existing difficulties and prohibitions on working with partners using American technologies, so it will do everything to get its chips on time and in the best quality.
When will the new EMUI 11 from Huawei and what will be new in it?
According to the report published on Weibo (all leaks concerning Chinese companies surface there), the cost of the new 5nm Kirin chip will be higher than the cost of the Apple A14. However, it will be cheaper than Apple ARM, but it’s too early to talk about it. And the new product will be larger than Apple’s chip. This can only partly be considered a minus.
The fact is that the processor that Huawei produces for itself is devoid of market competition. It is manufactured to order from one specific manufacturer. If it is a little larger, then engineers will just immediately make the case so that everything fits into it. The price will simply be included in the final cost or will slightly reduce their profits. This is not a big problem, unlike situations when the processor has to be sold to other manufacturers. This is where the market will make claims and pick and choose, but this is not the case for Huawei.
Benefits of Kirin processors
You can even say that due to the special operating conditions of HiSilicon, its Kirin chips are generally somewhat inferior to solutions from MediaTek and Qualcomm. But this also has a plus. While the two are fighting for billions of dollars in shipments, HiSilicon can simply focus on producing a single chip for specific tasks. It’s not scary, if it is a little more, the result will still be worth it.
A new report showed that Huawei is doing well again. How does she do it?
Despite the US government’s ban on working with Huawei, first for Google and some other companies, and then the ban on selling processors to it for companies with American technologies, the Chinese are somehow coping. One cannot but say that Huawei is doing great, but the company is trying to “swim out” and for this it is very actively “twisting its feet.”
I fully support them in this. The reports show that the buyers do too. They even managed to secure the first place among the world’s smartphone manufacturers to the Chinese company in the last quarter. Let’s see how it will turn out further, but for now there is a feeling that Huawei will not give up.

Perhaps some other ban will appear later, but at the moment the company is ready to become the first to release a processor based on a 5nm process technology. Apparently, this will happen as planned in September or October. The company itself, according to various sources, plans to deliver about 8 million Mate 40 to the world market by the end of the year. Let’s see what she does.
