by Take-Two Interactive has released its financial results for the first quarter of fiscal 2021. As with many other people in the entertainment industry, the past quarter was very successful for the company amid the COVID-19 pandemic, when consumers spent a lot of time at home.
Traditionally, the greatest revenue for the company was brought by the game Grand Theft Auto V, which has already sold more than 135 million copies since its release. At the time of the previous financial report, 130 million copies of this game were sold. Thus, in one quarter, a far from new game was sold in the amount of about 5 million copies. And this is the highest result in all the previous quarters since the game was released in 2013.
Take-Two Interactive has also revealed some of its future plans for Grand Theft Auto V. As previously announced, this game will appear on next generation consoles. Corresponding versions are slated for release in the second half of calendar 2021 with “a number of technical enhancements, visual updates and performance improvements to take full advantage of the latest hardware.”
Grand Theft Auto Online will receive an exclusive update for next generation consoles and new content, as well as a separate release. Apparently, GTA Online will not be free, but PlayStation 5 owners will be able to download the game for free for free during the first 3 months after its release. In addition, PlayStation Plus subscribers will receive GTA $ 1M for each month they play the game prior to the launch of the PlayStation 5 version. There is no final word on what platforms the standalone version of GTA Online will be available on, although it is expected to be released on PC, Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Hopefully, the respective versions will also be released for owners of current generation game consoles.
