With two races to go to the end of the season, Portuguese driver António Maria de Mello Breyner Félix da Costa, driving the French-Chinese DS Techeetah, secured enough points lead to secure the early 2019-20 Formula E Championship biennium The points he scored together with his team-mate, two-time Formual E champion Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne, were enough to ensure the DS Techeetah team won the constructors’ Cups.
The Formula E Berlin Super Final was dominated by DS Techeetah and Antonio Felix da Costa. Of the four races that have already ended, the Portuguese won two, and in the remaining two he came second and fourth. Together with the points he earned before the start of the quarantine, when da Costa won ePri Marrakech (Morocco) and earned silver cups in Santiago (Chile) and Mexico City (Mexico), this was enough to win the title ahead of schedule. Interestingly, this is da Costa’s first big victory in 11 years. The last time he became champion was back in 2009 in the Formula Renault 2.0 Northern European Cup.
In the Formula E DS Constructors’ Cup, Techeetah has already scored twice as many points as its closest competitor, the Nissan e.dams team, and turned out to be out of reach. Recall that Techeetah, whose pilots have won the third championship in a row, belongs to the Chinese investment company China Media Capital, which, among other things, owns the largest film studios in the PRC. The team is sponsored by the French carmaker Groupe PSA (Citroën, Peugeot, Opel, Vauxhall), which is promoting its premium brand DS Automobiles through Formula E.
In the two remaining races of the season, which will be held in Berlin on the track of the updated configuration on August 12 and 13, 2020, the fate of the silver and bronze medals of the championship will be determined, which theoretically claim 15 drivers out of 24. However, the chances for the vice-championship of Jean-Eric Vernier , leading by 11 points, look the most convincing. In the team championship, the fight for second and third places will unfold between Nissan e.dams, BMW i Andretti Motorsport, Mercedes-Benz EQ Formula E Team and Envision Virgin Racing. Theoretically, all participants of the championship claim to get into the top three, with the exception of the too lagging GEOX Dragon and NIO 333 FE Team.
Recall that the best moments of the races can be viewed on the official Formula E YouTube channel, while the live broadcasts are broadcast on the Eurosport 1 channel.
